Erica Sutehall

EricaSutehall1. Where do you live?   I'm originally from Seattle, WA, so while my heart resides in the Pacific Northwest, I currently live in the Museum District of Richmond.

2. How long have you been in Richmond?
Moved here in the summer of 2009 from Washington, D.C. to complete the clinical portion of my Masters degree from Georgetown University. Richmond quickly grew on me during that year so I decided to stay a little longer. I work as a Nurse Anesthetist here and I'm excited to find more outdoor activities to keep me busy in my spare time.

3. How long have you rowed? Just started, though I previously did a lot of sea kayaking in the Puget Sound area. I saw some VBC rowers from the balcony of the Conch Republic last summer and got excited. I found the "learn to row" class about to begin, so I signed up. Now I'm hooked. Since the class I've joined the masters group and am taking sculling lessons. Looking forward to the off-season training sessions and then hopefully back on the water in the spring!

4. Why did you start rowing?  Rowing was something I’d always been curious about, but it’s not particularly popular in Seattle, so I never had the chance. I was looking for some great workouts to keep in shape and hoping to find some like-minded people who might also be interested in other outdoor sports.

5. Why did you join the club? I wanted to continue to learn and get better at this sport.  Joining the club seemed like the next best step.

6. What other activities do you like to do when you're not rowing?  You will find me traveling the world or spending time outside when I'm not rowing (or not at work...) I have an 11 year old Vizsla who loves to hike and run with me. I enjoy skiing and snowboarding in the winter whenever I can. My motto is "have passport- will travel" and anytime that can be combined with some kind of outdoor adventure...I'm game.

Welcome Erica!!!

Welcome Sean Bamman!

20110522-Sean_-low_res1. Where do you live?   The far west end of Richmond not too far from Short Pump.

2. How long have you been in Richmond?
Moved to Richmond in January of 2001 for work.  Since then I have established a telecommunications consulting firm here.  We opened doors in 2005.

3. How long have you rowed? Started rowing when I was 13 years old for TC Williams in Alexandria in 8th grade.  I went to high school however at the rowing powerhouse of Washington-Lee in Arlington and rowed under the famous coach and great man, Charlie Butt.  I'm very proud to have rowed on Charlie's last heavyweight 8+.

4. Why did you start rowing?  Started rowing simply because my friends were doing it but soon became obsessed with the sport, the regattas and being on the water.

5. Why did you join the club?  Rowing is the greatest sport ever.  It taxes you both physically and mentally.  The pain of rowing a race is indescribable.  Your legs hurt, your arms hurt, you feel close to losing consciousness, body parts go numb, the portions of your hands that aren't already calloused become blistered and pop and you cannot stop until the race is over so you must find that inner voice and mental strength to keep going.  You're not suffering alone.  Your boat mates are suffering alongside of you as are the competition.  Winning after such pain is an unbelievable feeling of euphoria.

6. What other activities do you like to do when you're not rowing?  As the father of two sons with autism, I do my best to advocate for further research as to the cause, better treatments and ultimately a cure to autism.
