Competitive Rowing

Competitive Rowing

If competitive rowing is what you're interested in, VBC has two programs depending on when and where you want to row.  Our competitive rowers train on a regular basis and compete in regional and national regattas.

  • VBC at Botanical Gardens SprintsEvening Masters - row out of the Downtown boathouse every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays at 8:00am to 10:00am during the season.  This program is focused on sweep rowing.
  • Morning Masters - row out of the Robious boathouse every morning (Mon - Sat) from 6:00am to 7:15am during the season.  This program focuses on sculling with scheduled sweep outings depending on coxswain availability.

Both programs combine for races and travel to various regattas including Botanical Gardens Sprints (Norfolk), Diamond States Regatta (Delaware), Head of the Occoquan (Northern VA), and others.

racingAre you an experienced rower thinking about joining VBC?...Then come join us for an outing.  We offer "open row" days every Saturday for non-members.

Are you a natural leader?...someone who likes to take charge and lead a team to victory?  Consider becoming a coxswain - rowing's equivalent to the quarterback in football.  See our Become a Coxswain section for more details.
