MURPHY MEDALS AT OCCOQUAN ROWING

James River High School senior Connor Murphy placed third in the venerable Head of the Occoquan rowing challenge with a time of 21:41 for the 5000 meter race. His event is the Men's Youth  1x, or single scull. The Head of the Occoquan  is one of the largest end of the season regattas  in the United States. The Nov. 3-4 event in Fairfax VA draws over 300 boats a day with collegiate crew teams from Johns Hopkins, Duquesne,  Bucknell, and George Mason University to name a few. Master rowers and junior pre-collegiate scullers including Murphy competed in the 5000 meter head race at the Occoquan Reservoir. Murphy rowed under the flag of Richmond’s Virginia Boat Club, who fostered the James River High School team. During varsity crew season, Murphy rows in the stroke position of the men’s varsity four. Following graduation he plans to pursue a degree in Environmental Studies and continue with rowing.
