Learn to Row with the VBC
INTERESTED IN THE VBC 'LEARN TO ROW' PROGRAM in 2008?
SWEEP ROWING CLASSES SPRING & SUMMER 2008 Interested in learning to sweep row? The group learn to
sweep row program will be offered twice this
year (spring & summer) - as a 90 minute class three times a
week (in the evenings) for four week sessions (the schedule may change slightly
due to work demands of the Sweep Rowing Coach). Students will learn proper blade technique, body position,
and teamwork to enable them to enjoy the thrill of the power and speed of all
eight rowing together. This will teach team sweep rowing in a
four or eight person
shell and prepare the student for team or group rowing. The group sweep course
will culminate in the students racing as novices in an 8+ or 4+ person shell in
a USRA-sanctioned regatta in
Richmond, Norfolk, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, or other venues.
Graduates from the sweep program will be eligible to join the VBC and row as a VBC 8+ or 4+. Depending upon demand, our course teacher(s) will be available to continue to coach VBC sweep boats on a for fee basis and take the boats to races throughout the summer. Lessons will be taught by our current VBC
Sweep coach at the main (downtown) VBC boathouse. Tuition for each
course is $200.00. Graduates of the course who join the VBC are entitled to a
waiver of the VBC $50 initiation fee. Interested in learning to be a coxswain? Please also contact VBC VP, Steve to learn more.
SCULLING CLASSES SPRING, SUMMER & FALL 2008 Interested in
learning to Scull?
The VBC will have sculling coaches available this spring and summer (and
hopefully some availability for lessons in the early Fall). The five (5) lessons
will be held on a 1 to 1 ration for 90 minute increments. Depending on your
schedule and geographic location, and our coaching staff's schedule, you may learn to scull from our downtown
boathouse location or our Robious Landing boathouse. You will learn proper blade
technique, body position, river awareness and safety and boat care. Tuition for
the course is $200 and graduates of the course are eligible to
join the VBC.
